“Winter Birds of MN” - Clinton Dexter-Nienhaus will talk about Winter Birds in Minnesota- Minnesota is a prime winter birding destination for visitors from all over the country. This has to do with the proximity of our state to prime boreal forest that holds rarer or hard to find resident species like Spruce Grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker, and Great Gray Owl. This same habitat is attractive to winter visitors like Pine Grosbeak and Common Redpoll. However, not every year is the same and not every stretch of habitat is as attractive to all species. This presentation will focus on the diversity of wintering and resident bird species that can be found in Northeastern Minnesota during the winter months and why northern Minnesota is the place to be for winter bird watching!
