Bob O'Hare, our intrepid explorer, and veteran North Star member and trip leader Very
long time NSSTC member Bob O’Hara will present a program that features 40+ years of
far north arctic expedition canoe travel. Beginning in 1967 on his first far north trip to York Factory on
Hudson Bay followed in 1969 with his first Canadian Arctic trip on the Thelon River, O’Hara has paddled 34
rivers, including 2 that were documented as first descents by a non-indigenous person. While many NSSTC
member had completed the trek on skis across Finland, O’Hara paddled across from the Russian border to
the Baltic sea, shared with Sweden. O’Hara’s furthest north is 72 degrees N which is way above the arctic
circle. Two key words describe the decades of adventure: SERENDIPITY and ADAPTATION
Bob is in the Minnesota Explorers Hall of Fame.
