June 14, Wed {WW} Biking in the Scandia Area. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN MEETING PLACE AND TIME! Meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Scandia Community Center, 14727 209th Street N, Scandia, MN 55073. It is just south of downtown Scandia, on the east side of Olinda Trail (Cty Rd 3). Modern restrooms are available. Begin biking as close to 10:00 as possible.
We'll casually explore the rolling county roads in this very scenic part of Washington County and wind our way past three lakes: Big Marine, Bone, and Sand. With loop options to choose from, plan on riding somewhere between 15 and 25 miles. While the pace will be casual, this ride is not recommended for novice bikers. You must be comfortable and safe riding on roads, and there will be a few hills. But I assure you they are not that difficult if you have the proper climbing gears. Road and hybrid bikes are appropriate for this ride.
Bring a bag lunch to be enjoyed after the ride, either at the community center or, if possible, on the shady grounds of the Gammelgarden Museum of Scandia (a short walk across Olinda Trail). Nearby Meister's Bar & Grill, a local institution, offers the option of lunch on its patio. This ride will be rescheduled if there is a strong chance of rain. If in doubt, please call the leader by 8:30 that morning.
