Aug 16-18, Fri-Sun (AK) Kids Explore the Sparta-Elroy Bike Trail in WI. Hey kids, are you biking all over with your parents or friends? Sam and Joey are ready to explore the USA’s original Rail-Trail (circa 1966) with their grandparents, Dana and David Siskind. It would be fun to have more kids, and adults, even if you don't have kids, feel free to join us for a great get--away weekend.
The Sparta-Elroy trail in Wisconsin, a 32-mile trail has 5 towns and three tunnels, one almost a mile long. We’ll be camping in the Wilton city park which has showers, modern bathrooms, and a public pool. The camping is free or, at most, a nominal charge, and we don't need reservations. The trail itself is unpaved, typical of Wisconsin bike trails. So wider tires are advisable although David has done this okay on 27-1/4 in tires (700x28). Flashlights or good bike lights are needed for the unlit tunnels which have to be walked. There are great back roads in the area for our more fit enthusiasts, but big climbs are required to access most.
We plan to arrive Friday afternoon, bike all day Saturday and come home Sunday afternoon. Bring your own meals. Please RSVP so we can watch for you. FFI: Elizabeth Dittrich, 952-935-5153 or Dana Siskind, 612-929-0205
