Meet at our new location: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 104 S Snelling Ave in St. Paul (park in lot on north side of church). Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with a short business meeting and the program starting at 7:00. This month’s program: Kayaking In the Antarctic! Join fellow North Stars' Laura Baker, Fran Howley and Chip Treen as they recount their December 2017 trip to the Antarctic aboard the Polar Explorer. From their ship they kayaked amidst icebergs, brash ice and penguins. They paddled past a derelict whaling ship and listened to the eerie and haunting sound of a leopard seal's song resonating from the hollows of an iceberg. Landing daily on the continent or nearby islands they saw crabeater seals, fur seals, leopard seals and elephant seals, not to mention a few thousand penguins. The penguins, looking so awkward on land became incredibly graceful in the sea as they seemed to fly through the waves and water. They will share their trip through pictures and maps, and answer any questions we may have.
