On Friday, March 30 (Good Friday), I plan on hiking to Marshall Terrace Park, Nordeast, Minneapolis, to view the heron rookery on an island in the Mississippi River. If interested, meet me in the X-Cel Energy Parking lot off Marshall at 11:00 am so that we can begin hiking at 11:15. After viewing the herons, we will complete this two mile hike by wandering through a blue-collar neighborhood surrounded by commercial businesses where we will drop into the showrooms of two businesses. Riffs Smokehouse which features frozen packages of pulled pork, chicken, ribs and where you can sample their featured item, bacon on a stick which comes in many flavors. The second stop will be at Midwest Northern Nut where we can sample nuts and purchase the freshest nuts in town.
As we leave the nut place, we will try to determine which category we fall into as a group: Phychos, Big Wheelers or Bar Stool Hangeroners. This will determine where we go after the hike. Will it be Psycho Suzi’s, Betty Dangers County Club Ferris Wheel or Tony Jaro’s Rivergarden? All are on Marshall.
Dir: Head north out of Minneapolis on I-94 to the Broadway Exit. Follow Broadway across the river then head north on Marshall. Turn right onto 31st; (a little less that 2 miles) go one block, turn left onto Columbia and then left again into the X-Cell parking lot driveway. The lot faces Marshall.
